‎The state implementation agency, the Organisation for the Development of Administrative Centres (ODAC), announced last Monday (22 December) that the (long delayed) rehabilitation, development and equipping of Tripoli’s historic Grand Hotel (Al-Kabir Hotel) has begun.

The original hotel, which was damaged during World War Two, and then knocked down and rebuilt by the Qaddafi regime in the 1980’s, had been established in the 1920’s under Italian colonial rule.

ODAC said this project comes within the framework of the Tripoli government’s interest in the ‘‘Return of Life’’ plan aimed at reviving vital facilities and enhancing the service and tourism infrastructure in the capital.

ODAC said the hotel will be rehabilitated according to an artistic and architectural vision that keeps pace with modern standards and preserves the historical value of the landmark.‎
