Benghazi Security Directorate issued a warning last Thursday (27 November) that the committee formed by Benghazi based Libyan Prime Minister’s Decree No. (135) of 2025 confirms the cancellation of all additional fees on electronic payment transactions.
The committee calls on all merchants and shop owners to comply with the instructions, provide various electronic payment methods, and eliminate any commissions on payment transactions. It emphasizes that it will take the necessary measures to curb these illegal practices, which could lead to speculation on the local currency.
It will be recalled that the Tripoli based Central Bank of Libya had reduced e-payments commissions to a maximum 1 and 1.5 percent in November 2024 and then to less than a maximum of 1 percent from the initial 3.75 percent in March this year.
