The Attorney General’s Office reported last Thursday (2 October) that the investigating authority has ordered the detention of the directors of the Credit and Corporate Departments at Sahara Bank, as well as a former director of the bank’s Ben Ashour branch for the collection of illicit financial benefits resulting from banking operations carried out within the bank.
The Attorney General’s Office reported that the investigators discovered that the accused were reluctant to implement the guarantees required for banking operations, and to execute documentary credits worth Euro 19,383,193 million, three hundred and eighty-three thousand, one hundred and ninety-three thousand euros and LD 633,000, for the benefit of six companies, without the corresponding deposit in Libyan dinars.
The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of the defendants pending investigation and directed the arrest of the remaining contributors to the incident.
