‎The Western Mountain Military Region reported on 14 July that it had conducted a limited operation in and around the city of Ghadames to police and breaking the chain of drug trafficking and transnational organised crime. ‎The operation was carried out without human or material losses.‎

‎The Western Mountain Military Region said this limited operation came within the framework of the plan to enhance security in the region and combat smuggling, human trafficking, sabotage and organized crime.

Hence, after reported cases of lawlessness on the borders, a force belonging to the Western Mountain Military Region in the Ghadames region was deployed to carry out military tasks professionally and decisively, and to extend the authority of the state over its borders and vital resources.‎

‎ The Western Mountain Military Region is under the authority of the Presidency Council
The Western Mountain Military Region is commanded by Lieutenant General Osama Juwaili‎ and falls under the authority of the Presidency Council as the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, and not the Aldabaiba government. Tripoli based Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, nevertheless, is the Minister of Defence.
