Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced last Monday (28 October) that after a 13-year hiatus, Austria’s OMV resumed its exploration activity in Libya last Saturday (26 October), in plot (106/4) in the Sirte basin, to complete drilling operations in the exploratory well B1-106/4 (Hurricane Hope).‎

This announcement comes ahead of schedule as on 26 October the NOC had reported that it had expected OMV to resume operations within ‘‘weeks’’.

‎The NOC said Zueitina Oil Operations is overseeing the drilling of the well, which is expected to reach a final depth of 10,130 feet (3,087 meters) when drilling is completed.‎

‎The return of these companies, the NOC said, comes ‎‎within the framework of its strategy to increase oil inventories, which is the result of a series of measures and successes that paved the way for the return of these companies and the resumption of their activities.‎
