Minister of Economy and Trade meets Japanese Ambassador – MoU and joint forum in 2025 discussed

Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, met with the Ambassador of Japan to Libya, Shimura Izuru, last Tuesday (17 September) at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters.

During the meeting, they discussed economic relations in all fields, enhancing trade and economic cooperation within the framework of a new vision for cooperation with Japan, within the visits of the government’s delegation and its vision of economic partnership with friendly countries, including Japan.‎

‎Open new horizons for the development of bilateral relations
The two sides also reviewed ways to open new horizons for the development of bilateral relations in the fields of clean energy, industrial zones, and free zones, as well as the possibility of opening a branch of the Libyan Japanese Centre for Training and Consulting in Libya. ‎

‎Preparation of an MoU
The two parties agreed to prepare a memorandum of understanding to protect the rights of investors in the two countries, where the minister stressed that the ministry provides all the necessary facilities for Japanese companies and investors to work in various regions of Libya. ‎

‎For his part, the Economy Ministry reported, the Japanese ambassador expressed his country’s desire to enhance economic and trade cooperation and increase trade exchange between businesses in the two countries.‎

It was also agreed to hold a Libyan Japanese forum in Tripoli in 2025, with the participation of the private sector from both countries.

Invitation to Expo 2024 Japan
In conclusion, the Minister received an invitation from the Japanese Ambassador to participate in Expo 2024 Japan, where the Minister assigned the Chairman of the Exhibitions Authority to communicate with the Japanese side to achieve Libya’s participation in this exhibition‎.
