Major effort by the Ministry of Economy to bring back Chinese companies

The spokesman for the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Fawzi Wadi, said in an exclusive interview with the Libya Herald that Ms. Shather Al-Sayd, the Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Hwej, met with the Director General of the Directorate of West Asian and African Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Jim An, at the Ministry of Commerce’s headquarters in the Chinese capital, Beijing. The meeting was in the presence of Director of the Department of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Mr. Essam Al-Malhouf, and Chairman of the Libyan Chinese Business Owners Council, Milad Al-Breiki.

Call on Chinese companies to work in Libya
Wadi said, the Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Trade called on major Chinese companies to work in Libya, promising them to facilitate the necessary procedures while removing all difficulties and obstacles that would facilitate the completion of previous projects and the establishment of new projects.

Existing agreements to be reviewed
He noted the intention of the Ministry of Economy and Trade to review the memorandums of understanding and agreements concluded with China in the past and amend them in line with the current stage for the benefit of the two countries. Wadi confirmed the Minister of Economy and Trade’s interest in the Chinese economic and trade file and encouraged Chinese companies wishing to return to work in Libya.

China’s participation in constructing the new Tripoli International Fair
Wadi said that the Ministry of Economy would like the participation of Chinese companies to establish the new Tripoli International Fair, which has an area of about 47 hectares with international standards and is located south of the city of Tripoli, 20 kilometres from Tripoli International Airport in the Saadiya area.

Investment in free Zones, SEZs, transit trade
Wadi stressed the desire of the Ministry of Economy to invite Chinese companies to benefit from the advantages of free zones and special economic zones and the promising opportunities for transit trade and investment in them.

China interested in increased trade and investment
Wadi reported that the Director General of the Directorate of West Asian and African Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, stated opening the field of economic and trade cooperation with Libya, especially in the areas of investment in marine fishing, communications and infrastructure, with the competent authorities, and that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce will support and promote Libyan products by allocating spaces for them in international exhibitions in the Republic. People’s Republic of China.

Formation of working group
In conclusion, the attendees agreed to form a working group of departments and affiliated entities to establish a joint working mechanism to facilitate the return of economic and commercial activity between the two countries.

It is worth noting that Libya and China signed in 2018 a memorandum of understanding regarding joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
