The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce for Free Zones Affairs, Nuri Al-Gatati, confirmed in an exclusive interview with Libya Herald, that he visited the free zone as well as the exhibition grounds sites in Zintan last Wednesday to review ongoing infrastructure works under the supervision of the municipality.

National Free Zones Plan
Al-Gatati said that the Ministry of Economy and Trade seeks to implement the National Plan for Free Zones by approving several free zones that will be integrated industrial and commercial centers. In these, various services will be available to local and international investors to establish investments in Libya according to the investment map approved by the Privatisation and Investment Board (PIB).

Reduce government dependence and spending
He explained that an encouraging climate within the free zones will serve investors in the first place and provide sustainable development for the surrounding areas. This will enable the free zones to contribute to providing direct and indirect work for the local labour force to contribute to reducing unemployment and dependence on government jobs and thus the decline in government spending.

Free zone to create commerce, jobs and spatial development
The Undersecretary said the Ministry of Economy and Trade will start working on the implementation of the Zintan Free Zone in coordination with the relevant government agencies and the participation of the private sector to support commercial activity and create investment opportunities that contribute to providing job opportunities and achieving spatial development.
