Ras Lanuf restarts ethylene production: NOC

The state National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported Friday that its subsidiary, the Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Company, started operating its ethylene plant after a hiatus of more than ten years. The restart was achieved using only Libyan cadres, the NOC said.

Commenting on the restart, NOC chairman Farhat Bengdara said “With great effort, determination, and by Libyans, the maintenance of the units of the Ras Lanuf industrial complex has been completed. Today marks the start of the initial stages of operation for this complex, which has not been operated for many years. Moreover, the complex will operate at a capacity of no less than 70 %, which will be gradually increased until it reaches its full operational capacity in the coming days’’.

The NOC had reported on Friday that the process of introducing “Naphtha” into the furnaces and operating the cracked gas compressor system (R10-1) commenced, leading to the production phase and following up on the operations according to the approved operation manuals.

This process comes after the success of all operation tests for the work systems of the various units in the ethylene factory, which started several months ago, confirming the readiness of the production units in the industrial complex to keep up with the requirements of operating the plant.

Through this step, the Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Processing Company has reached an advanced stage in the plan to restart the industrial complex, which started in 2019, the NOC reported.
