The Tripoli Ministry of Transportation announced yesterday that its Transportation Projects Implementation Board gave permission for the start of implementation of Misrata airport’s new passenger terminal.

The new terminal will cover a total area of 15,600 square meters with a capacity of up to two million passengers annually.

In an exclusive interview with Libya Herald, Khaled Swesi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Air Transport Affairs, said that the company executing the project has started removing obstacles, levelling the land, and constructing a separating fence to secure the site and provide the necessary occupational safety.

Highest international specifications
He added that the new terminal will be implemented according to the highest international specifications and standards and will have all the necessary services for the convenience of passengers. It will have a generous number of boarding gates, in addition to cafes, restaurants, shops and ticket offices for various companies, with the provision of various communication services, high-speed internet and private parking.

Modernity and development
The implementation of the project, he explained, was initiated only after the adoption of the architectural designs of the new terminal, which is characterized by modernity and development, keeping pace with the best aesthetic designs of airports in the world, so as to meet the different needs of all travellers of all categories, while providing a special lounge for businessmen and official figures.

He explained that all security equipment will be provided in the new terminal, including high-resolution inspection devices, surveillance cameras, and high-sensitivity sensors, with an advanced fire extinguishing system and a control room for all components of the terminal.

Implementation by company
The Airports Authority and the Transportation Authority had contracted with the local Al-Jamal General Contracting and Real Estate Investment Company to implement the passenger terminal.
