The Public Prosecution Office ordered on Wednesday the pretrial detention of three former Libyan diplomats at its Ukraine mission from 2012 to 2019 for defrauding the Libyan state out of hundreds of thousands in foreign exchange.

The three infringed the procedures of the provision of medical service, infringed the allocations for delegation to study in the approved country, determined ways in which allocations’ value was disposed of other than in the direction through which it is intended to achieve a public interest.

These resulted in harm to the beneficiaries of the service, whom the law requires the mission to look after, causing serious damage to public funds, and collecting hundreds of thousands of foreign exchange for themselves and others in violation of the legislation regulating financial work.
