London, 14 September 2021:
The Italian embassy reported on Sunday that 60 Libyan students were awarded scholarships to study in Italy this year. This comes within the framework of the 2008 Libyan Italian Friendship Treaty.
It will be recalled that in June the Embassy published a call for awarding scholarships to Libyan students interested in studying in Italy. The scholarships are reserved for Masters, PHD, research projects, and studies in the Italian language.
The Italian Embassy formed a joint committee with the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Higher Education. The committee met several times until the end of August to analyse the more than 800 applications received. It interviewed around 300 students.
Finally, the committee awarded 60 scholarships. This number has grown compared to the 50 scholarships awarded in 2020 and 2021. The students selected are from across Libya and they are expected to leave for Italy soon as the courses will start by the end of September.
