Libya’s Interior Ministry is to clamp down on the carrying and use of unlicensed firearms.
A widely circulated internal circular instructs its relevant departments to gives citizens who carry weapons without a permit a month’s grace (from 11/5/2021) to hand their unlicensed weapons to the nearest police station or face the legal consequences.
The circular also called for the activation of granting licenses to carry weapons in accordance with the law.
It also aims to review the licence for hunting guns/shot guns and explosives (TNT) for permitted commercial use and the overview of the storage of explosives.
Firing of weapons at celebrations
The ministry also reminded its departments that the firing of weapons in the air as part of celebrations is prohibited and called for a clampdown. It also wants to urge events halls owners to discourage clients from this phenomenon.
