New Economy Minister sets priorities, including food availability and price stability during Ramadan

London, 18 March 2021:

The new Minister of Economy and Trade of the Government of National Unity discussed priorities and the mechanism of work in his Ministry during a meeting of heads of Departments on Tuesday. The meeting came hours after Minister Mohamed Hwej had taken over.

During the meeting, the problems and difficulties facing departments and offices in carrying out their tasks and ways to overcome them, and work to develop an effective action plan and mechanism according to a specific timetable – were discussed.

The Minister stressed the need to set priorities and focus on supporting departments and offices to carry out their tasks and achieve results that touch the citizen’s daily life, adding that the Ministry will work to develop an implementable action plan regarding the availability of goods in the local market and controlling prices during the holy fasting month of Ramadan in cooperation with relevant authorities.

He also stressed that the Ministry will move towards adopting a system that enables it to reduce centralization and support the National Programme for SMEs, due to its great role in developing human resources and supporting the local economy and industry.

The Minister indicated that the Ministry will work with all Ministries and sectors in the state and must perform its role entrusted to it in all fields through a clear vision that organizes its relationship with all sectors and bears its responsibilities towards the country and the citizen.
