London, 5 August 2020:

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of the eastern-based Libyan Health Ministry has called on Benghazi port to enforce social distancing and the wearing of face masks.

The call came in the form of a letter issued Monday to Benghazi port, the Libyan Ports Company and Benghazi port Security Directorate.

The letter stated that since the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that Libya has entered the fourth level of the spread of the Coronavirus, where cases are increasing and it is difficult for monitoring and investigating teams to identify ‘‘zero cases’’, because of the presence of cases of virus carriers who do not exhibit symptoms – a situation which the letter says calls for the danger alarm to be sounded.

It will be recalled that Libya is struggling to bring the spread of the Coronavirus under control unlike neighbouring Tunisia. This failure comes despite the government spending LD 500 million on preventing the spread of the virus.
