Tunis, 27 October 2017:

A Misrata security team is reported to have arrested three leading militants in Suq Al-Khamis, east of Khoms. They have been named as Mahmoud Ibshesh, Ramadan Shaurbaji and Feisal Zaltum.

Ibshesh is said to have been active with the Faruq unit fighting against the Libyan National Army (LNA) in Benghazi in 2014 and 2015. It was part of the Rafalah Al-Sahati Brigade, headed by Jalal Makhzoum who was killed in the final battle of Ganfouda earlier this year.

Ibshesh was wounded in 2015 and transferred first to Misrata and then to Turkey for medical treatment. It is not nown when he returned to Khoms.

The arrests are seen as part of the continuing crackdown by mainstream forces in Misrata against militants that started after the Brak Al-Shatti massacre last May. Earlier this week clashes were reported in Zliten, halfway between Misrata and Khoms between local Islamist militants and forces said to be from Misrata.

Significantly, LNA spokesman Ahmed Mismari, in his press conference on Wednesday, disclosed that information about terrorist groups in Benghazi and the location of arms caches there had been discovered as a result of militants being interrogated in Misrata. This suggests a degree of collaboration between forces in Misrata and the LNA.
