Benghazi, 22 August 2017:
Ground staff at Benghazi’s Benina airport suspended their strike this morning after being promised that their salary arrears will be paid. Flights in and our of the airport have restarted.
The move apparently follows the intervention of Khalifa Hafter who promised staff that the money would be found to pay them by the end of the week. Staff went on strike on Monday morning saying that they were owed 16 months’ back pay and that their warnings that they would take industrial action had been ignored.
To help meet the salary bill, the Benghazi office of the Libya African Aviation Holding Company is reported to have transferred LD 2 million to its affiliate, the Libya Ground Handling Company.
