Tunis, 8 July 2017:
The dialogue team from the House of Representatives arrived today in The Hague for talks with their opposite numbers from the State Council (SC) on amendments to the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA). The SC team headed by Abdulrahman Sewehli arrived in the Dutch capital two days ago and has already had preliminary discussions with Dutch foreign minister Bert Koenders.
He is hosting the negotiations but was in Hamburg today along with the Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte for the G20 summit.
The two sides have three days to start making serious attempts to find compromises on amendments to the LPA. Both are due to head back to Libya on Tuesday.
It had been expected that the new UN Special Envoy, Ghassan Sallamé, would attend the meetings. He was invited but is reported to have declined while wishing the Dutch mediation and the Libyan delegates every success.
