Tripoli, 8 May 2017:

The head of the Tawerghan Council, Abdulrahman Al-Shakshak has denied social media reports that the manager of the National Commercial Bank’s Gurji branch in Tripoli, Muftah Enwiji, has been kidnapped by angry Tawerghans.

“I was in contact with him last night and he confirmed to me the news about his abduction by an armed group is false,” Shakshak told the Libya Herald.

“Mr. Enwiji is doing his job at the bank’s headquarters in Gurji district in a proper manner,” he added.

But Shakshak did highlight the frustration of displaced Tawerghans living in the capital who were unable to collect their salaries because of the cash shortages in the banking system.

The Tawerghans were driven out of their town by Misratans in 2011 because of their perceived support for the Qaddafi regime.
