Tunis, 15 May 2017:
Classes at Tripoli University will resume tomorrow after the deputy head of finance, Dr Said Mayouf, kidnapped last week, was released early this morning. An announcement that he had been freed was made today by the university. He is now back home with his family.
Following an announcement yesterday by the university that exams would be suspended in protest at the abduction, students and staff then agreed to stop all study as well.
It is not known if Mayouf’s freedom is a direct result of the study and exams suspension, or if the kidnappers were paid a ransom.
In its announcement yesterday, the university also spoke of the kidnapping of university professor Dr Salem Mohamed Beitelmal who was kidnapped over three weeks ago, denouncing the double abductions.
There has been no further news of him so far.
Also, although classes are being resumed, nothing has been said so far about the exams.
