Tunis, 12 March 2017:
Abdulrahman Sewehli, the president of the State Council, arrived at Doha today at the invitation of the Qatar government.
During the two-day official visit he is expected to hold talks with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, as well with Qatar’s prime minister, Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, its defence and foreign ministers, and the president of its Shoura Council.
Qatar, which played a major supportive role during the revolution, has since been widely accused of supporting and funding the Muslim Brotherhood and other militant groups and individuals in Libya. The Beida-based government of Abdullah Al-Thinni and a number of House of Representatives continue to level accusations of interference, although the Presidency Council has been trying to rebuild bridges with it.
The visit is expectd to result in Qatar dropping all remaining links with the “alternative” west Libyan government led by Khalifa Ghwll and strongly endorsing that of Faiez Serraj insted.
