Benghazi, 11 March 2017:
Reports that Seif Al-Islam Qaddafi has been freed in Zintan appear to have been somewhat exaggerated. The son of the former dictator, captured in November 2011 and since held in Zintan, has simply been transferred from the keeping of one authority in the town to another.
Zintan Military Council has confirmed his removal from his existing place of confinement to another controlled of the town’s Social Council.
Last year, Saif’s British lawyer Karim Khan claimed that he had been released from house arrest on the orders of the Presidency Council and moved to an undisclosed location in Zintan. This was also untrue, although it is known that Saif has been confined in relatively comfortable circumstances akin to house arrest.
