Tripoli, 14 February 2017:
In an apparent show of defiance, Presidency Council (PC) deputy Ahmed Maetig and the PC’s defence minster, Mahdi Al-Barghathi visited the 302 Brigade’s headquarters by Tripoli’s Airport road today.
Despite the brigade’s presence, much of the area is supposedly controlled by the Libyan National Guards (LNG), the new militia backing Khalifa Ghwell.
Bargathi pledged to provide further support to the brigade when he visited the headquarters, adding that it was important they be constantly vigilant against any security threats. The LNG and allied forces now control much of west Tripoli but have been trying to extend their power in south Tripoli, especially around Tripoli International Airport which they plan to reopen on Thursday
Images on the Government of National Accord (GNA) Facebook page showed Barghathi and Maetig being greeted by 302 Brigade personnel, who said that they had sealed off the surrounding area.
