Benghazi, 27 June 2016:
Libyan National Army (LNA) MiG fighters continued to target sites in the south Benghazi districts of Gwarsha and Ganfouda overnight amid LNA reports that that it had re-captured more territory from the militants.
This includes the Najila area of Gwarsha, Al-Jawhara beach in Ganfouda (taken by Brigade 309), and the Al-Jowfe Oil Technology company buildings on the road south out of Benghazi towards Gemenis.
According to Saiqa Special forces, the pipes factory in Gwarsha was surrounded and was expected to retaken imminently. Saiqa also reported that a boat, presumed to be trying to take supplies to the militants, had been bombed of the Nowruz beach resort, just south of the Tourist Village, near Benghazi University.
There are still pockets of both Gwarsha and on the coast at Gafouda where militants are still holding out. However, reports by Nabaa TV, which supports them, that they had regained control of both places, are not true.
In contrast, Fadl Al-Hassi, the head of Saiqa’s investigation unit, this morning said that the unit was tightening it grip on Gwarsha.
Casualty figures from the latest fighting have not been announced.
