Tripoli, 12 April 2016:
The trial of Saadi Qaddafi has been adjourned yet again today. It was put back . . .[restrict]for the fourth time last December when the judge ruled that the prosecution needed more time to prepare its case.
Among the charges against the late dictator’s playboy son are that in March 2006 he murdered Ittihad Tripoli football team coach, Bashir Al-Rayani. He has also been accused of war crimes during the Revolution, false imprisonment and drinking alcohol.
Since his extradition from Niger in March 2014 Saadi has now appeared five times in the courtroom attached to Hadba prison. Today’s adjournment was requested by own his lawyers who said they needed more time to study fresh evidence submitted by the prosecution.
Last October video was posted online showing Saadi being abused in the prison. An enquiry was ordered and a hunt launched for a missing prison warder. No outcome of that investigation has yet been revealed. [/restrict]
