Tunis, 20 February 2016:
Prime minister-designate Faiez Serraj flew to Tobruk late last night in order to attend tomorrow’s all-important . . .[restrict]the House of Representatives session today which will debate his proposed new government.
He was accompanied by three Presidency Council members – deputy prime ministers-designate Musa Koni and Fathi Majberi and civil society affairs minister Ahmed Hamza Mahdi.
The HoR had insisted that he propose the government in person and have his updated list of ministers ready by last night.
No announcement has been made so far, however, as to the replacements for Fakhr Bufernah and Muhanad Younis. Selected respectively as finance minister and minister for the martyrs, wounded and missing, they had pulled out within hours of their nominations being announced.
There is also speculation as to whether he will keep Mohamed Taha Siala as his foreign affairs minister and Al-Hadi Al-Taher Al-Juhaimi as planning minister. There has been considerable criticism among HoR members about them. Both continued to support Qaddafi until late during the revolution, Siala as Qaddafi’s minister of international cooperation.
