Four bodies were found when three Italian warships rescued over 700 migrants off the Libyan coast today.
According to AFP, the migrants were travelling in six boats. The Italian corvette Cigala Fulgosa took on 403 migrants from three craft and also pulled four bodies bodies. Its sister ship the Bettica plucked 219 migrnts from two vessels while the anti-submarine frigate Scirocco rescued 105 migrants from a rubber raft.
The Italians have not yet given the nationalities of those it saved. Rome is reporting that so far this year some 6,750 migrant have made it to Italy, slightly fewer than in the same period last year. [/restrict]
