Amid growing concern about the presence of swine flu (H1N1) in Tripoli and the ability of the . . .[restrict]health service to deal with it in the present circumstances, the education ministry in the capital said that no students in any of Tripoli’s schools are infected.
In statement released yesterday, the ministry has stated that all schools had been checked in recent days and no cases were found. Some students were ill with similar symptoms but these were what it said was “seasonal influenza”. The ministry added that it was working with the National Disease Control Centre which had confirmed only two cases of swine flu so far, both young children under the age of 5. One died a week ago.
“The centre has a specialised team dealing with health care in schools and through its direct contact with the health offices in schools can monitor suspicious cases going to hospitals and check patients’ identity if they are students,” Mohamed Sultan ministry’s media office told the Libya Herald.
Monitoring of the situation was ongoing, he said.
As to “seasonal influenza” he said that those infected were being allowed time off school. He did not state how many cases there were. [/restrict]
