Tripoli, 26 January 2016:
The head of the “National Salvation Government” in Tripoli, Khalifa Ghwell, has travelled to Uganda . . .[restrict]for discussions with the country’s president Yoweri Museveni. He arrived two days ago with a delegation which included his foreign minister, Ali Abuzakuk.
In two hours of talks on relations between the two countries, Museveni is reported by the Ghwell government website to have expressed his support for the “Libya-Libya” Dialogue, as opposed to the UN-brokered process, allegedly saying that he would promote it at the African summit in Addis Ababa this coming weekend.
The Ghwell government has not been invited to attend, but the Thinni administration’s foreign minister, Mohamed Al-Dairi, has.
Libya has significant investments in Uganda including Ugandan telecoms company Utl, the Tropical Bank and hotels and other properties.
Ghwell today visited the Uganda National Mosque in Kampala, built by Qaddafi and which until 2013 was known as the Qaddafi National Mosque. [/restrict]
