Tripoli, 4 October 2015:
Ain Zara councillors have replaced their mayor . . .[restrict]after he lost a vote of confidence.
It is not yet clear why mayor Abdulwahad Baloog forfeited the support of his colleagues, four of whom voted for his removal while the remaining two abstained.
The job of running the municipality has been handed, on a temporary basis to Ali Ghayadi, who with Asma Al-Ghanai had abstained from the vote against Baloog. The councillors said they would make a formal choice of a new mayor at a later date.
Those who voted to oust Baloog were Khlaed Furjani, Abdulmotaleb Ghameg, Mohamed Margheni and Abdulbaset Mouradi. All seven were elected to the council in May 2014 and selected Banur shortly afterwards.
He was seen as a proactive leader who this June was among the mayors who joined together to insist that the Haj should not be politicised and pilgrim places allocated regardless of current divisions and conflict. [/restrict]
