Benghazi, 12 January 2015:
Two young women shot dead yesterday in Benghazi and a third who was injured in the . . .[restrict]attack were not the victims of a random shooting as reported by a number of media outlets, the Libya Herald has been told. The three, said to be sisters, were victims of an honour killing carried out by another member of the family.
The three were in a car at the Ras Obeida roundabout, this newspaper was told, when they were shot. One was said to have been hit in the head and chest and died on the spot. The second was rushed to hospital but died soon afterwards. The condition of the tird is unknown.
“It was a family dispute,” a neighbour said, noting that the family were saying that the women have been “immoral”. He did not explain.
“No one cares if someone is killed if the family says they’re immoral” he added.
The killer has been arrested. It is claimed he had a criminal record. [/restrict]
