Benghazi, 26 January 2015:
The Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Elsaghir who was kidnapped from his hotel in Beida early . . .[restrict]yesterday morning has been freed. However, there is still no explanation as to why he was abducted.
The Deputy Prime Minister Salem Al-Badri has launched an enquiry and was questioning Elsaghir this afternoon as to exactly what happened.
Meanwhile both the Interior Minister and the Libyan National Army have said that none of their people was involved in the abduction.
Numerous explanations have been advanced as to who was behind it, some more fantastical than others, most of which centre round the notion that someone with connections in Beida had it in for Elsaghir because he would not do what was asked of him.
The incident is seen as seen as damaging the government which until now has managed to act in safety in Beida. [/restrict]
