Tripoli, 29 September 2014:
The Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani, has issued a fatwa against credit cards issued . . .[restrict]by the Aman Bank.
According to a lengthy statement posted yesterday on the social media site of this official organisation Dar Al-Ifta, in answer to a reader’s question about the credit cards, there is a number of concerns in the fine print of the terms and conditions of the cards.
Apparently many of these terms and conditions pose a problem for those concerned with Islamic banking regulations and thus the fatwa.
It has, however, sparked anger on other Libyan social media sites with accusations that while the Grand Mufti can condemn credit cards he stays silent about continued killings in Benghazi.
The House of Representatives is reported to have agreed to sack him over his support for Libya Dawn in Tripoli but no announcement has been made. [/restrict]
