Benghazi, 30 September, 2014:

The Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani, has condemned yesterday’s UN-sponsored meeting in Ghadames between . . .[restrict]active members of the House of Representatives and those boycotting its sessions in Tobruk. He has ordered the latter to stop taking part in the dialogue, at least until the Supreme Court rules on the legitimacy of the HoR.

It has been reported that the court would make a pronouncement on 8 October although it is thought that this may be delayed.

The delegates on both sides of the HoR divide yesterday agreed to resume their discusions immediately after the Eid Al-Adha holiday.

The Ghadames meeting was not a real dialogue, a statement from Ghariani’s Dar Al-Ifta said. It betrayed the blood of the martyrs. Moreover, it read, the HoR in Tobruk was unacceptable because of its dangerous decisions, such as calling for foreign intervention, imposing its control over the state and declaring the revolutionaries in Libya Dawn to be terrorists.

Dialogue with such a body was wrong and un-Islamic, the Dar Al-Ifta ruled.

It remains to be seen what measure will be taken to enforce the ruling or whether the boycotting members of the HoR who took part in the meeting will comply.

Last night, the Ghadames meeting was condemned by a Libya Dawn spokesman and on its Facebook page it has since said that it  refuses any dialogue with the HoR and intends to continue using military force to uphold the objectives of the revolution.

Saying that the dialogue could not be taken seriously because it had not been invited to attend, Libya Dawn categorised the HoR as a military coup whose forces bombed and killed the Libyan people. [/restrict]
