Tripoli, 15 August 2014:

House of Representative (HoR) member for Tripoli Central, Ali Tekbali, refuted smear allegations by the Islamist . . .[restrict]opposition and their media outlets that Representatives had been held “hostage” by the pro HoR camp in Tobruk unable to leave.

“There is no holding of any Representatives”, he said, adding that “the proof of this is that some Representatives have (now) departed (Tobruk) and no one has prevented them from doing so”.

“Some Representatives have left due to urgent matters regarding their families. Even if some Representatives do not return, the HoR will continue as it has maintained its quorum”, he explained.

On the complaint by some Representatives that the law to call for international help to protect civilians was forced upon them with little warning or time for prior debate, Tekbali said that “the law to protect civilians was presented to the HoR presidency four days prior to it being passed, and even if as it was claimed by some Representatives that it had not been listed prior to voting on it, voting on some issues in an emergency is allowed”, Tekbali proposed.

“We will work on achieving the law to protect civilians and we will work on its follow up”, he pledged.

Tekbali also hit back at a claim by one female Representative that the HoR decisions or laws were pre-prepared. “We did not reach any decisions prior to exhausting all points of view”, he stressed.

“The HoR is well and it will surpass all the challenges”, he assured the public.

“We will not succumb and we will not compromise and we will kneel only to God”, promised Tekbali, referring to the pressures and threats from the political camp opposed to the HoR who are working hard to discredit it and dilute its legitimacy. [/restrict]
