Tripoli, 21 July 2014.
The Warshefana Shoura Council has called for the police and army to intervene to put an end . . .[restrict]to fighting in Tripoli and wants all parties involved in the conflict to start talking.
The council condemned attacks on state institutions, such as the airport, and the violence against civilians and airport workers. They said the attack on the airport was an attack on the property of the Libyan people. They called on the government to investigate the airport assault and arrest and charge those responsible.
They said that the people of Warshefana would back any mediation efforts to end the strife and bloodshed.
The Warshefana, they added, fully supported the new House of Representative and were anxious that it should begin its work as soon as possible. The council also reaffirmed its commitment to the political road map and the drating of the constitution.
It remains to be seen if the call will have any effect. In the current political divide that has pitted the Zintanis against the Misrata-led alliance that includes the Libyan Revolutionaries Operations Room and Suq Al-Juma forces, the Warshefana are seen as firmly on the side of Zintan. [/restrict]
