Tripoli, 22 July 2014:

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has welcomed the announcement by the High . . .[restrict]National Elections Commission (HNEC) of the results of the elections for the House of Representatives.

Commending HNEC for its professional work in the midst of “extremely difficult conditions”, UNSMIL said that  the “best possible conditions” are required for the transfer of power from the General National Congress to the new legislature. It was looking forward to the new parliament being convened as soon as possible.

UNSMIL, which has been providing technical support to HNEC, promised to continue to work with it.
