Tripoli, 6 June 6, 2014:
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is to spearhead a political dialogue initiative involving various Libyan organisations, parties and players.
The meeting, to be held a week before the June 25 parliamentary elections, is aimed at reaching agreement on divisive issues – or at least “narrowing the rift, according to Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Tarek Mitri.
Speaking to a press conference yesterday, Mitri said that the initiative was supported by other foreign diplomats. Also in support of the talks were several Libyan bodies, including the National Dialogue Preparatory Committee. [/restrict]
