Tripoli, 2 January 2104:
Reports that a Briton and a New Zealander were shot dead near Zuwara have not been . . .[restrict]confirmed.
Reuters, quoting local security sources, reported that the bodies of two people who had been were found near the Mellitah oil and gas complex, between Zuwara and Sabratha.
Separately, there have been reports that a Briton working for the Mellitah oil and gas complex is missing, as is a female. Pictures of a man and a woman shot dead and said to be a Briton and a New Zealander have appeared on local social media sites.
An official in Tripoli meanwhile told the Libya Herald this evening that two bodies had found today near Sabratha, but they still had not been identified and that it was too late to attempt to do so. Efforts would be made tomorrow.
However, security sources in Sabratha itself said that no bodies had been found there today.
The British embassy, which also looks after New Zealand interests in Libya, is said to have been in touch with the local authorities and those in Tripoli to investigate the reports.
