Tripoli, 25 January 2014:
Benghazi’s Saiqa Special Forces captured four members of a militant Islamic cell in a raid on . . .[restrict]a farm last night, where a hit-list was discovered.
One Special Forces member was killed it the operation. A source close to Special Forces told the Libya Herald that the raid, on a farm in Benghazi’s Hawari district, took place during Friday prayers. He added that the operation lasted around an hour, as the militants used force in an attempt to resist capture. One member of the Special Forces unit, who has been identified as Moataz Husaain Braydan Ellwati, was killed during the ensuing firefight.
The Special Forces seized what appeared to be a hit-list of names of senior police and military officials, some of whom have been murdered in recent assassinations. The source said that individuals named on the list had been contacted and told to be vigilant and take safety precautions.
The Special Forces had been alerted to the presence of the cell on the farm after receiving reports of suspicious activities. An investigative unit of the force had reportedly observed the militants for a month prior to the raid.
An investigation into the activities of the suspects, who cannot be identified for security reasons, has been launched. [/restrict]
