Tripoli 28 November 2013:

The University of Tripoli will be granting students slain in the Gharghur massacre on 15 November . . .[restrict]posthumous honorary degrees.

A commemoration ceremony is to be organised in their memory and a memorial will be erected in the university, Mohamed Drah president of University Student Union told the Libya Herald.

“This initiative was launched by the University’s council made up of the Students Union, deans of faculties and the university’s president. We presented the initiative to the Minister of Education last Saturday and he agreed on it,” Drah explained.

The ceremony is due to take place in a fortnight’s time. Students are being asked to come up with a design for of the memorial, he added.

Students who died in Gharghur massacre have been named as: Abdulati Zendah, Aisha Sadeq, Luay Harathi, Abdurrahman Kaim, Mahmoud Al-Weddani, Abdulmajid Zlitni and Wael Al Hajji. A pharmacy lecturer was also among the victims. He has been named as Abdulmonem Jalloul.

An earlier list provided by the students union immediately after the massacre and published by this newspaper contained some names of the dead who were not students. We apologise for the mistake.  [/restrict]
