21 November 2013:

The national fencing teams’ recent successes at the International Open Championship for Fencing is seen as a . . .[restrict]sign of the country’s burgeoning sporting future.

Adult and junior fencers swept the medals table two weeks ago at the championship with the senior team’s Khaled Buhadima, ranked 26th in the world, taking home bronze and a promising performance in the under 17s from Adham Al-Zituni winning him the gold.

An academy with a difference in Tripoli

Thirty fencers from Yemen, Libya, Lebanon and Morocco participated in the competition at Tripoli’s February 17 Sports Hall. There were 14 from Libya.

Speaking to the Libya Herald, Dhaw Tumi, General Secretary of Libyan Fencing Federation, explained that a training hall for the sport would be opened in Benghazi in December and an Egyptian coach has been contacted in the hope that he would train the team.

This, he said, would put the national team in their best shape since they resumed training in April 2012. Having competed in the the African Championship in South Africa in June 2013 and with the Mediterranean Fencing Championship just two months away, he was looking to more medals being won.
