Benghazi, 20 July 2013:
Five people have been arrested and LD 50,000 recovered by Benghazi Special Forces following an armed . . .[restrict]robbery at a city bank.
Eight gunmen burst into the Al-Hadaeq branch of the Jumhouria Bank in Benghazi last week and started firing shots into the air. The gunfire shattered glass and intimidated staff, enabling the robbers to make off with LD 50,000.
The Special Forces were immediately called to the scene and managed to apprehend five of the thieves, four of whom are believed to be brothers. They also recovered the stolen cash.
The hunt is now on for the three bank robbers who evaded capture.
This was the latest in a string of bank robberies across the country. Earlier in the month two Sirte banks were robbed at gunpoint, with LD 94,000 taken from the town’s Jumhouria Bank and LD 411,000 stolen from the North Africa Bank. [/restrict]
