It is thought that this was an attempt to assassinate the commander of the Qardabiya Martyrs Unit guarding the hospital, Makhlouf Ben Nasser Ferjani . The bomb was found under his office window.
According to the police, the bomb which was connected to a mobile phone, would have caused massive destruction to the hospital, killing a number of people, had it gone off.
The bomb was discovered in a plastic bag by a member of the unit. According to the Libyan news agency LANA, Iit was diffused by Handicap International which has a mine clearance team operating in Sirte. [/restrict]
