Benghazi, 15 January 2013:
Four new vessels have arrived at Benghazi Naval Base, the base commander Noureddine Salah Khairallah announced on Monday.
“The . . .[restrict]new naval boats arrived from the Netherlands and will be used in the fight against illegal immigration, the protection of the Libyan waters and against super fishing trawlers.”
The boats were, he said, “to replace naval vessels boats destroyed during the liberation war” and would be based at Benghazi, Derna and Tobruk. Another four vessels were awaited, he added, which would also be based at eastern ports.
Thirty-two navy personnel were also being trained in the Netherlands on the use of these boats, he explained, and some had now began operations off the Libyan coast. [/restrict]
