Tripoli, 29 May:
Tripoli traffic police, in cooperation with the response unit police, the patrol police department as well as the brigadesmen . . .[restrict]now working at the police operations room, organised an awareness campaign to re-activate and promote the role of traffic police in the capital.
The campaign aims at enforcing respect of traffic lights and bringing an end to illegal and selfish parking as well as rebuilding respect for security state institutions including the traffic police.
According to police sources, Tripoli is now witnessing an improvement in overall traffic discipline. They claim the campaign has managed to achieve some success so far in respect of traffic lights — although many in Tripoli would dispute that, given that at almost every red traffic light, at least one vehicle, if not many, ignores it.
