Tripoli, 1 May:
Tension is rising in Kufra tonight after a man was shot and killed in the town’s Ashoura district while . . .[restrict]walking home from a market.
The dead man, who has not been named, was shot at around 8 pm by an unknown assailant. He is said to be from the Al-Majabra tribe.
The Ashoura area is seen as largely a Tebu area.
Late last month there were clashes in the town between Tebus and government forces in which 11 people died. These were seen by many as a continuation of February’s bitter fighting between Tebus and the Zway tribe in which over 100 people died.
In the view of many, Kufra remains a tinder box and the rivalries between different groups, often over smuggling, have been intensified by the possession of massive stockpiles of arms. [/restrict]
