Tripoli, 9 March: There were clashes involving militiamen in Tripoli on Thursday night over pay. They occurred in Omar Mukhtar Street, . . .[restrict]Shara Al-Sarim near Shara Ennasser and in the suburb of Gurgi.
The fighting started after militiamen went to area military council offices to collect money promised to them by the government. It is reported that tempers flared when many did not find their names on the lists. Making matters were, they claimed that some names on the lists had not played a part in the revolution.
This led to bitter argument with the local military councils. The disgruntled militiamen then started shooting at the local military council offices. The most serious clashes were in Gurgi where heavy weaponry was used.
“We heard at least three explosions. They were so strong the windows shook,” said one nearby resident on Friday morning, who wanted to know the cause of the fighting.
So far, no causalties have been reported. [/restrict]
