Tripoli, 5 January 2015:
Turkish Airlines has suspended . . .[restrict]all passenger flights to Libya, after cancelling yesterday’s services for security reasons.
“Our flights to Misrata have been suspended until further notice, due to operational reasons,” said the deputy head of media relations for Turkish Airlines, Dr Ali Genc.
The suspension followed the airline’s cancellation of two flights yesterday for security reasons, after military airstrikes took place in Misrata for the second time whilst a Turkish Airlines passenger aircraft was at the airport.
Although the airstrikes, carried out by the Libyan National Army (LNA), have not so far targeted Misrata Airport, the nearby military aviation academy has been hit. The port and the LISCO iron and steel works have also been targeted.
Turkish Airlines confirmed that no decision had yet been taken regarding their charter cargo flights to Misrata. [/restrict]
