Tripoli, 28 July 2014:
Libya’s UN representative, Ibrahim Al-Dabashi, has added his voice to warnings that the armed groups involved in . . .[restrict]clashes both in Tripoli and Benghazi will be brought to justice. The world was watching, he said, and would take action.
There was, he said, a growing consensus that the groups’ attacks on civilians and on public facilities were considered as war crimes and should therefore be tried before the International Criminal Court (ICC). The international community has also considered imposing sanctions on the leaders of the groups, Dabbashi added.
The world wants to help Libya to build a unified, legitimate state, one which is able to impose law and order independently from outside intervention, he stated.
In the past fortnight since the airport in Tripoli was attacked, several billion dinars-worth of aircraft, equipment, buildings and property have been destroyed. Over 125 people are reported to have been killed in and around the capital in rocket attacks.
